Remove The Shower Switch From A Bathtub Faucet

Removing the switch is necessary if you are replacing the rubber washer seal that is on the inside. Unfortunately not all manufacturers offer this replacement part, and you will need to purchase another spigot. These rubber washers are known as compression washers, they look like a hollow donut. As the water pushes up against them it expands the washer to create the seal. When these get old and deteriorate you will notice water leaking, or the switch not staying in place for the shower.

Instructions

1. Look up into your spigot, you will notice a plastic piece with two clips built into it that are plastic and clipped onto a metal stem. Wedge your flat end screwdriver up into the spigot in between the plastic piece and the metal stem.

2. Turn the screwdriver either way to un-clip this plastic piece. The piece will simply pop off of the metal stem.

3. Remove the plastic piece. The plastic piece should be loose once unclipped from the metal stem. Remove the piece by pulling it out.

4. Pull up on the metal stem to remove it.

5. Installation is the reverse of removal. Push in the metal stem, and clip the plastic piece back on.
