Regular maintenance on your Genie garage door opener will keep the opener running smoothly and efficiently. The remote control units that we use from our vehicles to open the garage door are reliable. There is times however when they do not operate as they should. Troubleshooting a Genie garage door opener remote will quickly pinpoint the problem when your remote is not working correctly.
Change The Battery
Changing the battery will most often cure a non working remote control. Insert a coin in the battery back cover and unlock it by pressing in on the tab. Remove the back cover and take the old battery out. Insert a new battery and snap the back cover back on to the remote control. Point the remote control at the garage door opener and press the button.
Programming
Although it is highly unlikely, the program code may have been lost in the garage door opener. To reprogram the remote control you will need a step ladder to reach the front of the garage door opener. Underneath the force adjustment screws locate the learn code button and the LED light. Press in on the learn code button and the LED light should start blinking. Press the button on the remote control within thirty seconds. The LED light should now stop blinking. Press the remote control button again and the remote is programmed.
Receiver
Some Genie openers have a separate receiver for the remote control that is not in the opener housing. Try moving the receiver farther away from the garage door opener. If both the garage door opener and the receiver are plugged into the same outlet, disconnect the receiver and plug it into a separate outlet.
Antennae
If you still have no power to the remote the frequency may be interfered with. You can attempt to adjust the receiver antennae on the garage door opener. Move the antennae to different direction and check the operation of your remote. If after all these things have been done with no response replace the remote control unit.
