Doityourself Detox Body Wrap

Body wraps are excellent ways to detox. Nutrients are absorbed through the skin, helping to cleanse the body. Flushing out toxins boosts confidence and energy when you are trying to feel good and lose weight. Body wraps are available at spas, but they are often very expensive. Save money by following these instructions for a do-it-yourself detox body wrap.

Typical Ingredients

The best detoxifying ingredients are usually healing clays like Bentonite and seaweed. A typical recipe will contain an even mixture of Bentonite clay and kelp, along with enough water to make a paste that is then warmed. Look for recipes that contain these ingredients (see Resources). Test any recipe by applying a small amount on your skin and leaving it on for 30 to 40 minutes. Wash it off, and wait 24 hours. If no irritation occurs, then proceed with a body wrap. If you feel some irritation or if there is redness or something to be concerned about, contact your doctor.

About the Process

Apply the warm paste directly to skin. Press down gently so it will stick to skin for better absorption. You can focus on specific problem areas, or go for an entire body wrap. Avoid face, neck and hands, however.

Then wrap with cloth or elastic bandages. Try cheesecloth, or anything that can be pulled so it clings to the body. A set of Ace-type bandages works very well. Start with your legs, and work your way up. Don't wind the cloth or elastic so tightly that circulation is impaired. Wrap yourself up in blankets, or make a sauna in the bathroom by running hot water and letting the steam build up. Drink water to stay hydrated.

Wait One Hour and Unwrap

A body wrap typically takes 45 minutes to 1 hour. Take a lukewarm (never hot) shower afterward. Bentonite clay can absorb more than its mass in the toxins. Seaweed has a similar ability. Drink plenty of water for the next three days to flush out toxins, and take lukewarm showers daily, since the detox process will actually will continue to work keep after the wraps are removed.
