Ultracet Side Effects

Ultracet is a drug often used short-term that treats moderate to severe pain. As is the case with prescription drugs, Ultracet can cause a variety of side effects dependent on the individual, dose size and other variables.

Identification

Ultracet is a prescription drug that is a combination of the drugs Tramadol and Acetaminophen. Though either drug can be used alone to treat pain, Acetaminophen increases the effectiveness of Tramadol so that Ultracet may treat more severe pain. According to Drugs.com, Ultracet is considered an "analgesic combination" that affects areas of the brain and nervous system to decrease and, in some cases, eliminate pain.

Common Side Effects

Individuals using Ultracet have reported a number of common side effects including vision changes, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, weakness and loss of appetite. Though common, any of these side effects that persist or intensify over time may signal a serious problem. Never hesitate to contact your doctor in the case of bothersome side effects.

Serious Side Effects

Drugs.com reports that Ultracet can cause the following severe side effects: seizure, severe skin rash and irritation, shallow breathing and weak pulse. In addition, severe allergic reaction to the drug including severe swelling of the face or throat may occur. Seek immediate medical attention in the appearance of any of the preceding side effects.

Use

Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Since Ultracet is a short-term drug, never extend the duration of use unless instructed so by a doctor. Take orally with or without food. Never take more than eight tablets a day or longer than five days unless specifically instructed.

Warning

Since Ultracet may cause drowsiness, take extreme caution when attempting to drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how Ultracet can affect you. Never take Ultracet when intoxicated or drinking alcohol. Individuals with liver disease should contact their doctor before using Ultracet. Individuals with a history of seizures should be careful when using Ultracet as this side effect may be more likely to occur. Do not take any sedatives or drugs for depression while using Ultracet.
