Side Effects Of Exemestane

Exemestane, also known as Aromasin, is a hormonal therapy for breast cancer. Exemestane interferes with the production of particular hormones and lowers estrogen levels in the female body. But Exemestane can produce both mild and severe side effects.


General Side Effects


General side effects of Exemestane include fatigue, hot flashes, flu-like symptoms and fever.


Gastrointestinal Effects


Exemestane can cause abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting and constipation and nausea, which can affect the ability to eat.


Nervous System Effects


Exemestane can affect the nervous system. Side effects of this drug on the nervous system can include headaches, insomnia and depression that interferes with day-to-day activities.


Respiratory Effects


This drug can also produce respiratory infection, dyspnea, rhinitis, bronchitis and sinusitis.


Critical Side Effects


Exemestane can occasionally cause an allergic reaction, which could produce symptoms such as hives, rash, swelling of the mouth or face, shortness of breath and severe stomach pain. If a person exhibits these symptoms, she should go immediately to the emergency department of the closest hospital.
