Information On Theanine

Theanine, a chemical found in green tea, is available as a supplement that aids in the relief of stress and anxiety. This supplement helps the body produce calming amino acids and stimulates the brain's production of alpha waves.

How it Works

According to the Theanine.net, theanine increases the levels of serotonin and dopamine in the brain. These chemicals generate good feelings and occur naturally when you are in a good mood. The increased levels of dopamine and serotonin make you feel less stressed and anxious.

Side Effects

Theanine is safe, according to WebMD, when used once a week for a three-week period. As of 2010 there is no research indicating whether its use for longer time periods is safe. Pregnant women and women who are breastfeeding should avoid using theanine.

Recommended Dosage

As of 2010 no research has been conducted to determine how much theanine can be safely used at one time. EMedTV recommends starting with the dosage on the package's label and then adjusting the amount for your need. There is no recommended daily allowance (RDA) for this product because it is an amino acid and is not necessary for human nutrition.
