Natural Treatments For Sinus Pain

Natural Treatments for Sinus Pain

Sinus pain is often caused by sinusitis (sinus infections), allergies and colds. Treating the underlying cause of sinus pain will be more effective than focusing only on the pain. There are natural treatments for sinus pain available to alleviate discomfort.

Garlic

Garlic contains the same chemical found in drugs that make mucus less sticky, such as expectorants. Clearing congestion can often relieve pain and pressure.

Saline Spray

Using saline spray to flush out the nostrils can help rid you of stale nasal secretions. You can also mix one teaspoon of table salt with two cups of warm water and a pinch of baking soda.

Hydration

Drinking extra liquids (hot and cold) helps thin the mucus and keep it flowing. Teas containing fenugreek, fennel, anise or sage are also effective.

Horseradish

Horseradish is a pungent root that contains a chemical similar to one found in decongestants. Bottled horseradish will do the trick.

Humidity

Using a humidifier in your home helps prevent the sinuses and nasal passages from drying out. Clean the humidifier ones a week to prevent fungi from growing.
