Types Of Healing Stones

Healing stones are believed to improve overall health and wellbeing.

Throughout the ages, certain stones have been said to improve physical and mental health. It is believed that these stones can be held in the hand, placed on certain parts of the body -- in areas known as chakras -- or even placed under a pillow to provide healing properties. While there are many kinds of healing stones, there are a few that are touted as the most powerful.

Amethyst

Amethyst is a light-purple stone and is considered to be one of the more-potent healing stones. Amethyst is used primarily for stress relief and emotional stability, but it also said to have the ability to increase concentration and instill a sense of peace upon the user. Amethyst is believed to be most effective when placed on the crown of the head or the brow.

Citrine

Citrine is believed to be a stone of happiness and optimism. The stone, which ranges in color from light yellow to deep orange, is said to help ward off depression and increase creativity and mental clarity. Because of its positive energy, citrine is also said to create prosperity for the user, both in tangible and intangible forms. Much of the citrine sold today is created by adding heat to amethyst, which turns the stone orange. Therefore, some of the amethyst properties may be found in citrine as well.

Jade

Jade has been a staple stone in China for centuries. Most commonly associated with luck, Jade is also believed to get rid of negative thoughts and feelings, and encourage overall emotional wellbeing. While most people associate the stone with green, jade can be many different colors including blue, brown, lavender, red and white, each believed to have varying levels of healing power, depending on the color.

Lapis Lazuli

Lapis lazuli is said to purify the blood and boost the immune system. The deep-purple gem is believed to have quiet healing properties and to help align the body as well as the mind, thus keeping the user focused and still. Lapis is said to draw energy upward, therefore working best when placed closer to the head.

Quartz

Also known as rock crystal, quartz is said to have the most healing properties of all the stones and is known as the "master healer." Quartz crystal is believed to activate the body's energy and draw or provide energy, depending on the needs of the user. Quartz is said to also assist with healing on all levels mentally, spiritually and physically when placed anywhere on the body.
