Parchment Craft Tutorials

A note card with a parchment craft heart

Parchment craft tutorials are a reliable way to learn the art of making lacy-looking embossed parchment craft cards and pieces of art. With just a few tools, a design you like and a tutorial to guide you, you too can become proficient at this popular craft. There are both pictorial and video tutorials available on line to help you. One of each kind is linked below.

Parchment Craft: The Overview

Parchment craft tutorials demonstrate the basic principle of creating raised patterns on this translucent paper, so that it is actually embossed. See trace your design in white ink, then turn the paper over to start making tiny dots. You'll notice these dots do not go all the way through the paper, but just far enough to make the three-dimensional pattern you want to achieve.

Parchment Craft: The Tools

Tutorials show you master parchment craft techniques using specific tools. You may buy the tools separately, or as a kit, at your craft store. You will note that parchment paper comes in white or delicate pastels. To trace your design, you'll need a tracing pen and white ink. Alternately, the design can be imprinted with a stamp, which is used with an ink stamp pad. Next, you'll see how an embossing pen is used to create a raised design, while a stippling pen makes continuous lines and details. Tinting crayons are used to delicately color any or all parts of your design. Notice the craft pad that goes behind your paper when you're stippling. Also, have your scissors and tape handy. The tutorials will demonstrate exactly use all these tools.

A Tutorial: Make a GIft Tag

The gift tag video tutorial can be accessed at the link below. It shows you make a simple floral gift tag, step by step. A Pergamano (parchment) starter kit with all supplies needed is used, but you can also follow the tutorial using separately bought supplies.

A Tutorial: Create a Lacy Heart

This tutorial demonstrates use a stamp and ink pad to transfer a more advanced design onto your parchment paper. The next step in the tutorial is embossing to make the basic raised pattern, followed by adding fine detail with the sharper stippling tool, or "piercing tool." This tutorial also uses a grid, to help you make uniform dots. It calls for sugar dust, or extremely fine beads, and shows a beaded frame you can make for your heart. One advantage of this tutorial is that you can print it out, and take all the time you need for each step.
