History
Thought to have begun in Tibet thousands of years ago, the practice of reiki was rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese educator, in the mid-1800s. It was then introduced to the western world during the 1970s.
Function
Recipients of a reiki treatment can heal themselves by drawing the "universal life energy" from the practitioner's "laying of hands."
