Create Body Scents With Essential Oil

Making a body spray is an easy and fast way to create an individual scent with essential oils.

Essential oils were used long before synthetic fragrances were developed. For generations, cultures all over the world used botanicals as body scents and still do. Essential oils can be used for creating body scents, body lotion, and body sprays, and can be used by most anyone, depending upon the oil and the dilution of it. Generally, a two percent dilution is safe for external use on adults. Creating your own scent with essential oils is fun and inexpensive way to get a one-of-a-kind scent.

Instructions

1. Choose a carrier oil, such as fractionated coconut oil or jojoba oil for mixing your perfume oils. Fractionated coconut oil is clear and will not stain clothes.

2. Pour the carrier oil up to the 10 ml line of your small beaker. This is a good, small amount to start with when figuring out your specific blend.

3. Mix your choice of essential oils into the 10ml of carrier oil one drop at a time, carefully counting how many drops you use. Write the amount you add on an index card, for future reference. Always start with fewer drops than you think you might need. It is easier to add drops than it is to dilute the solution.

4. Store the different test perfumes in an amber or cobalt blue glass dropper bottles, these specific colors help to protect the essential oils from UV rays. Store the bottles at room temperature and allow them sit for at least four days before opening the bottles.

5. Open the test perfumes that you created four days ago and see which ones are pleasing to you. Make any alterations to the body scent if need be.

6. Add essential oils to pre-made fragrance-free products, as another way to create body scents. Use 20 to 30 drops of your choice of essential oil per 8 ounces of lotion, 20 drops per 8 ounces of shampoo, and 20 to 30 drops per 8 ounces of conditioner. Shake vigorously to combine the oils with the pre-made fragrance-free product.

7. Fill a bottle with a mist nozzle with water and essential oil for yet another way to create a body scent. For every 8 ounces of water in the mister bottle, add 20 to 30 drops of essential oils and shake vigorously to mix before using. Shake lightly before each use after that. This can be used as a body spray, or room spray.
