Topical Treatments For Skin Tags

A skin tag is a benign growth of skin cells that protrudes from the top layer of the skin. Skin tags can be found on the neck, upper chest, groin, armpits or eyelid. While some people don't mind skin tags, others find them bothersome and want to remove them. Although cryosurgery, which freezes the skin tag and causes it to fall off, is an effective way to remove skin tags, there are several topical treatments that can be applied to skin tags at home.

Topical Medication

Over-the-counter topical medications can help you remove skin tags without surgery. Two common medications are DermaTend and Skin Tag Dx. Consult your doctor before applying either of these medications.

DermaTend is a topical herbal treatment for moles and skin tags. To use it, gently rub the skin tag with a pumice stone before applying DermaTend. Apply it directly to the skin tag and cover the area with a bandage. Remove the bandage the next day, as a scab will have formed over the skin tag.The skin tag should fall off in one week.

Skin Tag Dx is an all-natural topical medication for skin tag removal. Place a few drops of it on your skin tag three times a day. The skin tag should fall off within a few days to several weeks, depending on severity.

Home Remedies

According to SkinTagHelp.com, an effective home remedy for minor skin tags is baking soda mixed with castor oil. Combine an equal proportion of these ingredients until the mixture becomes a paste. Apply the paste to the skin tag three times a day. In about two weeks, the skin tag should fall off.

Another popular home remedy for skin tags is tea tree oil, available at health food stores. Apply tea tree oil directly to the skin tag three times a day for two weeks. The skin tag should fall off on its own.
