Old Fashioned Cures & Home Remedies

Home remedies

People should not discount old-fashioned cures and home remedies. Many of those cures and remedies actually work. So you should listen to Grandma when she tells you to drink chicken noodle soup broth the next time you have a cold. These cures and home remedies also are all natural and do not cause harmful side effects, unlike many medications on the market today.

Old-Fashioned Cure for Aching Muscles

If you are looking for a way to soothe your aching muscles after a workout, try this old-fashioned blend. Mix together one cup of olive oil and one tbsp. of horseradish. Wait one-half hour then rub the mixture over your achy muscles. This cure also works on muscles that ache because of the flu.

Home Remedy for Coughs

Over-the-counter cough syrup has many side effects. It can even make you sleepy. You can avoid all that by mixing one tsp. of honey with the juice of one lemon wedge. Drink it each time you begin to cough uncontrollably. Remember that a little bit of coughing is good. It gets the mucus out of your lungs. Use this home remedy only when your cough gets out of control.

Home Remedy for Whitening Teeth

Mix one-half tsp. of baking soda with one-half tsp. of hydrogen peroxide. This will form a paste that you can use on your teeth. Brush the paste on and then leave it for three minutes. Make sure that you do not swallow this mixture. If you feel the need to spit, then do so in your bathroom sink. When the three minutes are up, rinse your mouth with water and then brush your teeth as you normally would. Baking soda is an ingredient in some toothpastes, but it is the hydrogen peroxide that actually does the whitening.
