Adhd Treatment Options

The condition known as ADHD is deemed a childhood disorder, broadly affecting concentration and behaviors. Hyperactivity can be a symptom, but is not present in all cases. Nonetheless, the condition is not isolated to children and it can last throughout adulthood. There are several theories regarding the cause or causes, the most prevalent being genetics, environment or a combination of the two. There are a variety of treatment options.

Prescription Medication

Stimulant medications such as Ritalin are a pharmacological management tool used to treat ADHD.

Psychologists

Another treatment option available for ADHD is seeking out psychological help, such as family or behavioral therapies.

Physical Fitness

There is some evidence to suggest that an overall improvement in health and fitness may be beneficial toward moderating ADHD symptoms.

Alternative Treatments

There are some advocates for additive free diets as a treatment for ADHD, but the effectiveness of these diets remains uncertain.

Considerations

The use of stimulants in treating ADHD has become the subject of significant controversy in the US. Detractors argue that the medication may become addictive, or that there has been insufficient analysis regarding long term use, while advocates maintain that proper dosages yield significant benefits with minimal side effects.
