Each sexually transmitted disease presents different symptoms. Genital warts are extremely contagious warts that originates from various types of the Human Papillomavirus. Warts are acquired through skin-to-skin contact with an infected person. The painless lumps appear on the penis, scrotum and anus of men. The warts appear as pink lumps that are in groups or single. For genital warts, key symptoms include lesions, itching and moisture.
Lesions
One of the tell-tale signs of genital warts in males is raised lesions on or near the penis or anus. The lesions may look like cauliflower.
Itching
Men with genital warts may report itchiness in the area of the lesions.
Moisture
The area near the lesions can feel moist to the touch.
No Symptoms
Sometimes men with genital warts report no symptoms but can suffer from genital warts. Remember that genital warts may not produce symptoms for several years after a person is infected.
Other Possibilities
Some men suffer from pearly penile papules (hirsuties papillaris genitalis), which are not sexually transmitted and can be confused with genital warts. The small, dome-shaped bumps are the color of skin and are more common in men who are uncircumcised and in their 20s and 30s. Treatment for these harmless bumps is with a carbon dioxide laser.
