Oil Of Oregano & Tooth Pain

If you need to ease the pain of a toothache in a pinch, you can rely on oil of oregano to help alleviate your suffering.

Purchase

Be sure you are using good quality oregano oil. Concentrations vary by brand, so it is important to use pure oregano oil with no additives. General Nutrition Centers offer an oregano oil free of fillers, artificial flavors and colors. This oil also can be purchased online from vitaminworld.com. The product offered here contains a base of pure virgin olive oil.

Check Mouth

Next, you will want to check your mouth and gums for any open sores, cuts, abrasions or bleeding. If any of these are present you should not use the oil of oregano as it could cause irritation to the gums.

Prepare

Take a few drops of the oregano oil and dilute with an equal amount of water. Mix the solution well with a clean cotton swab. Cover and seal any unused solution.

Application

Take a clean cotton ball and saturate it with the oil and water solution. Apply directly to the affected area by gently rubbing the cotton ball on the gumline. Repeat as needed, taking care to use a clean cotton ball for each application.

Follow-up

Be sure to follow up with your dentist as soon as possible as a toothache is a sign of tooth decay or a more serious infection that should not be treated at home.
