Depression and anxiety are both conditions that cause intense, undesirable feelings and emotions. Per the National Institute of Mental Health, anxiety disorders often accompany depression. Standard treatments for depression and anxiety include medication and therapy, depending on the severity of the illness. An alternative form of therapy is the use of color to affect change in the mind and ease the symptoms of depression and anxiety. Color therapy is used to bring out and soothe emotions.

Violet

Violet is used in color therapy to calm the nervous system. This can be helpful for anxiety in particular, but will also help with depression. The color violet is also said to relax muscles and encourage meditation. It may also assist with treating organs that are in distress, according to the National Center for Health and Wellness.

Orange

In color therapy, the color orange signifies the sun. It's touted as effective at improving mood, as well as concentration and alertness. Orange is particularly useful in treating depression and mood. It may also soothe feelings of dread that often accompany anxiety.

Indigo

Indigo is a powerful color that is recommended for people suffering from depression and anxiety. It's extremely helpful for any mental disorders. Indigo tends to have a calming effect, which is particularly valuable when you suffer from anxiety.

Blue

Blue is helpful to those suffering from depression and anxiety, as it can put our minds and bodies at peace. It may relieve nervous tension as well. The color blue may even have tranquilizing qualities. Surrounding yourself in blue will also help with any sleep issues that you have suffered due to anxiety and depression. It has a positive effect on physical and mental pain.
