Hang A Lamp With A Diffuser & Shade

Custom lampshade.

Hanging lamps can add light and ambiance to an area of a room where no other ceiling light usually would be. They can be used as interesting reading lights on either side of the bed, over an oddly placed dining table or made to accentuate a particular corner or nook. Hanging lamps are also mobile and are great for apartment or rental house tenants. Making your own hanging lamp with diffuser and shade is a cost-effective way to have custom lighting that is beautiful as well as mobile.

Instructions

1. Begin by threading the ends of the light-kit cord through the chain and weave throughout the length of the chain.

2. Insert the light-kit cord through the retaining nut at the top of the lampshade. Thread the wires into the pipe and into the light socket. Wrap the ends of the wires into the wire connectors of the sides of the socket and screw tightly. Press the socket together and secure according to the manufacturer's directions. Place the lampshade over the light kit and secure with the retaining nut. Screw a light bulb into place.

3. Determine where you would like to hang your light and mark with a pencil. Using a power drill, drill a hole into the ceiling. Screw the industrial-strength ceiling hook into the ceiling tightly by hand. Pliers may be needed to make the final turns.

4. Hang the lamp chain from the ceiling hook to the desired height and drape the remaining length of the chain and cord to the closest wall outlet. Place the acrylic---cut to size---into the bottom of the lampshade and turn on the light switch. Enjoy your new hanging lamp with diffuser.
