Clean Saltillo Tile Floors

Saltillo tile floors are a staple floor covering in many southern homes. Not only are they hardy, but they are also exceptionally beautiful and go with most types of decor. This article will explain clean your floors.

Instructions

Cleaning Saltillo Tile Floors

1. Sweep your Saltillo tile floors thoroughly before mopping them. This will make the cleaning process much easier.

2. Next you should wet-mop the floor with just water to pick up any remaining loose debris or pet hair. This will get the bulk of the heavy dirt off before you deep clean them with solution.

3. Mix 1/2-cup of vinegar per gallon of warm water into your mop bucket. Mix thoroughly. The vinegar will have a distinctive smell, but don't worry--as soon as it is dry, the smell will subside.

4. Mop your floors thoroughly with the vinegar and water solution, rinsing your mop with warm clean water with each pass on the floor so that you don't return dirt to your mop bucket.

5. Once you have mopped your floor with the vinegar and water solution, make one more pass with fresh, clean, warm water to pick up any last traces of dirt. The vinegar/water solution is good for floors with sealant on them as it will not remove the sealant and it is a gentle cleaner.

6. If you are resealing your floors, you should use an ammonia mix (1/4 cup ammonia per gallon of water) to clean your floors as it will help to strip your floors of the old sealer. You can use the scrub pads to remove stuck on food and debris so that it is not resealed to your floor.
