Harbor Breeze bathroom exhaust fan/light/heater combo wiring?
Seem to be having a very hard time understanding the wiring instructions/diagram? Have two wires coming from blower, a white and a black. From the light/heater, there are 4 wires, a white, a red, a blue and a green. If I read the instructions correct is seems that it would be wired as this? Green to green for ground Neutral line in to all white wires? Red to red from for the heater Then a black from the switch to a blue for the light? Then a black to a black for the vent? Any help appreciated! Does power come in at the switch or light? That info is needed to give you an answer as is if this is a new installation. Did it come with a special switch? If not and you want to run all three functions separately you will need three separate switches or one separate simplex switch and a duplex switch or a triplex switch (Decora usually). Wiring from switch will need 14-4 or 12-4 plus ground NM-b or 4four THWN in ENT or multiple cables such as one 2 conductor cable and one three conductor cable. Because it has a heater best practice would be a dedicated 15 amp or 20 amp circuit. I have probably told you too much with too little explanation so post back your questions and I will give you more detail. The existing fan/light/heater installation has a 3 function switch It appears that power goes to the light and then to the switch. I'm still taking it all apart, they used a dedicated circuit and what appears to be 14-3 wire, but I have a real concern that to get the extra power supply they needed they just pigtailed some wires together. I'm still taking it all apart, Before you disconnect any wires, noting how they are connected and posting that information here will help us narrow down the advice we give you. Especially noting any splices. thanks for all the help........finally got the thing in and working. I understood that I needed to keep the fiberglass insulation away from the metal housing, esp on the heater end. I built a heavy wire screen mesh box around the housing. Still seems as if there will be a lot of hot air loss or cold air infiltration. Is it possible to use the expanding foam insulation, or the aluminum foil reflective type insulation to seal around the housing, esp by the base where it comes thru the sheet rock? thanks again.....
