If you need a creative concept for your teen's birthday, host a glow-in-the-dark party featuring interactive elements that the guests will love. Invite your child's friends with eye-catching invitations that make the kids anticipate a lively event, and then deliver on the promise with delicious refreshments and exciting games focused on the glow-in-the-dark party theme. Entertain the guests with an illuminated atmosphere that they'll experience the moment they walk in the door.
Instructions
1. Buy black blank cards and glow-in-the-dark paint to create party invitations. Simply write, It's a Glow in the Dark Party! on the front of each card and allow the paint to dry. Write the party details like the time, date, location, RSVP information and instructions to wear light-colored clothing on a piece of white cardstock affixed with a glue stick to the inside of the card.
2. Swap all of the light bulbs in the party rooms with black lights to ensure your decorations and game props glow. Decorate the walls with glow-in-the-dark posters, float lime green or dark-colored balloons with white shapes along the ceiling and hang white streamers that will appear illuminated under the black lights.
3. Give each guest an assortment of blue, green, orange or yellow glow bracelets and necklaces as they arrive at the party. Help guests apply temporary glow-in-the-dark tattoos to their faces, arms and hands.
4. Organize games like a glow-in-the-dark relay race that requires one person from each team to run across the room and dig through a bag of objects to find the next item his team needs to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Create one bag for each team filled with two slices of bread, a jar of peanut butter, a jar of jelly, a plastic knife and an assortment of unnecessary food and kitchen items. The first team to complete the sandwich in the semi-darkness wins.
5. Serve refreshments like finger sandwiches made with white bread, light-colored cookies and crackers with white cheeses that will reflect the glowing colors. Choose beverages like lemon-lime or club soda or sparkling lemonade that will also appear to glow under the black lights.
6. Let the guests drink out of plastic cups with LED-lit bottoms to light the beverages. Decorate plain paper plates and napkins with designs created with glow-in-the-dark paint pens. Leave the white paper tablecloth plain so the guests can leave messages for the guest of honor with the paint pens.
Tips Warnings
Although you've created the glow-in-the-dark party invitations on black cards, mail the invites in white envelopes to ensure it's easy to read the recipients' addresses.
Ensure the safety of your guests during the glow-in-the-dark festivities by clearing the room of furniture, props or decorative items that the kids might step on or trip over. Place black lights on tables or in the room corners so the guests won't knock them over when dancing or playing games.
Ask guests to wind flexible glow-in-the-dark necklaces around each ankle to prevent the kids from stepping on each other's toes throughout the party.
