Laars Lite2 Won't Take Turn On - Pilot Lit
I have a Laars Lite 2 LG125N pool heater. My original problem was the pilot light would not stay lit. I troubleshot and replaced the pilot generator ( Part No. W0036901 ) and now the pilot light will stay on. The heater will not turn on however and that is now my problem. I went through troubleshooting again and replaced the entire temp control board assy ( Part No. R0058200 ) and Still will not take off. Went back to square one, troubleshooting step 10.4.2 Pilot Generator in my manual says with the pilot lit, and the switch off, I should have a minimum of 500mVDC at the gas valve where the generator wires hook up, I only have about 310mVDC. I unhooked the pilot generator and tested the leads direct with the pilot light lit. Says I should have a minimum of 700mVDC, I have only 320mVDC. My book says that the pilot generator is then bad....but it is brand new!!.. Do you agree my brand new generator is bad?? Please help! Hi It needs to be fully engulfed in the flame. If its not try to reposition. Is the pilot flame large enough? Sometimes the tube gets alittle clogged and the flame might be reduced. Or it could be bad out of the box. You never know. Check the above first. Mike NJ there is probably a blockage in your pilot itself. Spiders like webbing them up. Clean with a small wire or even better a pipe cleaner found at hobby stores. Your flame is not hot enough is what it sounds like... So should I clean the gas line from the gas valve all the way to the pilot generator where it comes out?.. just want to make sure I understand where you are saying. And thanks so much for your help! Clean the end of the pilot tube. Like todrut stated, things like to get in there when the heater sits idle over the winter. You never stated if the pilot flame looks lower then normal? But also isnt there a test in your manual to determine if the gas valve is bad? Mike NJ Thanks again for the assistance!. There is a test for the valve itself and the results say the valve is OK and the pilot generator is bad because of the low voltage. I can't really say for sure if the flame looks the same as years past so I will take it back apart and check for blockages or restrictions. I will let you know later what happens..It's been outside for 7 years so I'm sure there could be some goodies in there. I guess you can test the pilot generator at another flame source, such as your gas stove. If you have it fully engulfed and still produces the low volts then just return it for a new one. Mike NJ OK, could not get the line off the pilot ( all siezed up ) so I took the line off at the gas valve and blew compresed air through it. Was getting some air out of the pilot but not really blowing out hard. Did not see any signs of critters so I put it all back in and retested with the same results. Took it back out again and tried your trick on the stove ( excellent idea I must say! ). Only when I heated it so long the end was red did I see voltage even close to 650mv..took a long time to get there even in the direct flame. I don't think they usually have to get cherry red in order to produce the needed voltage. What do you think???.. my manual has no instructions on checking gas pressure out of the regulator to the pilot..don't know if I need to go that far....good thing I don't do this for a living or I'd be broke..ha ha, thanks again! I think the pilot genererators are cheap enough. Let us know if you get the same results with the new one. I cant find the manual online to help you further. I know the hayward manuals have a series of tests to perform using a multimeter to determine the exact fault. Mike NJ Replaced the pilot generator again, and also installed a new pilot and gas line to it. Put it back together and lit the pilot light. Checked my voltage at the gas valve and the reading came up much higher this time to about 570mv which was much better than before. Turned on the switch to ignite, heard the gas valve click and away it went!. Seems to be working great now! Going to try and return the other pilot generator as defective since I could never get that kind of voltage out of it even when it was red hot. Gotta love new parts that don't work! Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it.
