Make Homemade Christmas Picture Card Ideas

Personalized Christmas cards earn a special place on the mantel.

During the holiday season, families enjoy receiving Christmas cards from loved ones. For those who do not see each other often, sending personalized Christmas cards that feature a photo of the family or just the children makes a fun, festive way of showing that recent photo to your relatives. Homemade Christmas cards are not only enjoyable and economical to make, but they add a personal touch. Christmas card crafts are an ideal project to give kids to do on days off from school that allow you and the kids to be as creative as you want to be.

Instructions

1. Choose card stock colors for your Christmas cards. Traditional colors are red and green, but you may also choose blue, white or silver to go with the holiday theme.

2. Cut out 9- by 4-inch squares from the card stock and fold in half. Use the Mason jar lid and pencil to create a trace of a perfect circle.

3. Cut out the circle shape with the folded paper to create two layers, but leave a 1-inch portion of the circle uncut on the top at the folded part in order to create a tab for the string to be glued into.

4. Place the decorative string across the crease line while the ornament is open and flattened on the table. Use silver or gold string, ribbon or thin cording if you choose.

5. Apply a thin layer of glue directly beneath the crease line. Use hot glue or crafting glue to secure the string in place. Once you apply glue, fold the ornament so that one layer is directly on top of the other and press firmly on the tab to secure glue to both layers.

6. Tie the decorative string in a bow using both of the loose ends. This way, the card recipient can hang the ornament on the tree or other Christmas card display.

7. Cut out a 1-inch square out of the yellow construction paper to adorn the top of the ornament. Place a dab of craft glue on the tab and then affix the golden square to the ornament.

8. Cut out a family photo to place inside into the ornament circle. Use a professional holiday photo, or a personal one of the children or whole family. Use craft scissors with decorative edges to enhance the creativity of the Christmas card.

9. Glue the photo with craft glue to the bottom portion of the ornament. On the top, write Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas from the (Family Name).

10. Use glitter, glue or holiday-themed stickers to decorate the outer portions of the ornament.
